It's finally here! My age-long dream of cooking classes for children, Tony's Juniors, started in November at Pohjoisesplanadi 21 B. For enquiries, reservations and schedule, visit www.tonysdeli.fi or contact Tanja Hell on 040-9010307 or tanja.hell@tonysdeli.fi.

We'll be teaching kitchen juniors to cook in the weekends in series of two and three days, on the homely loft level of the beautiful empire building.

An evening session lasts about 3 - 4 hours, after which we sit down to share the meal we've just prepared together.

The classes are aimed at 7 - 14 year olds, but we will be flexible on both sides.

Running the course will be respected herbalist, Cordon Bleu chef, and the author of several cookery books, Mirja v. Knorring, who has previous experience in inducting children to the secrets of kitchen craft and who shares my passionate belief in the importance of eating together. Tony's Deli's knowledgeable chefs will also be at hand to guide the junior learners.

TONY'S JUNIOR CLASSES ARE WHERE YOUR CHILD WILL EXPERIENCE AND LEARN...

...the miracle and joy of creating something,
while watching the muffins or bread they just made rise in the oven!

...to recognise quality and authenticity,
as we delve deep into the flavours, freshness and seasonality of food ingredients!

...about the exciting world of tastes,
as we familiarise ourselves with the basic tastes: salty, sweet, bitter, sour and Umami, and journey into the versatile range of spices and herbs!

...to have a natural and healthy approach to food,
because the food you've prepared yourself is the source of health and delight!

...the ABC of table manners and how to behave in a restaurant,
because we eat around a properly set table and go through good table manners and restaurant etiquette!

...the joy of sharing,
when everyone gets to try each other's achievements and even take some home!

...the benefits of being organised,
because it quickly becomes clear that being organised leads to the best results, and that it's easier to cook and be creative in a clean kitchen than it is in total chaos!
